As far as the eye can see all there is, is flat snow covered plains. The plains stretch out for almost 135 miles. It takes a team going around 10 miles per hour around 13.5 hours to make it to the check point beyond the plains. This is an easy course and so far every team that has ever ran this race made it through. There are very few bushes and rocks, but there are a few. It is very doubtful that you will find wolves this close to the beginning, but it is possible. There are many rabbits for the dogs to be distracted by, so there's plenty to catch if you want to bother catching them.
